Layoff case at EVRAZ NTMK takes an unexpected turn, 29 October 2025

A resident of Nizhny Tagil, who was laid off from EVRAZ NTMK in early 2025 due to staff reductions, succeeded in being reinstated at work and recovering more than 420,000 rubles from the company, according to the regional court’s press service.

The woman had worked as a cargo and baggage receiving clerk. In December 2024, the company notified her of the upcoming redundancy, and in January 2025 an official dismissal order was issued. The former employee disagreed with the decision and filed a lawsuit with the Tagilstroevsky District Court, seeking reinstatement, payment of wages for the period of forced absence, and compensation for moral damages. However, the court of first instance found no grounds to satisfy the claim.

The woman filed an appeal, pointing out errors made by the employer in the dismissal procedure, particularly that she had not been offered all available vacant positions at the plant. The regional court panel found this argument convincing. The violation of the dismissal procedure became grounds for overturning the previous decision and issuing a new ruling.

As a result, the dismissal order was declared unlawful. EVRAZ NTMK must now reinstate the employee in her previous position and pay her more than 420,000 rubles in total. This amount includes wages for the period of forced absence and 30,000 rubles in compensation for moral damages. In addition, the company must pay more than 21,000 rubles in court fees.
