India: Garment exporters told to share tariff costs or shift production abroad; incl. co. non-responses

In August 2025, it was reported that garment exporters in India had received requests from clients to shift manufacturing abroad, after the country was hit with a 50% tariff by the US administration. In one case, an exporter with clients including Kohl's and Gap reported receiving 'midnight panic calls' from clients, with an ultimatum that the exporter either share the tariff costs, or shift production abroad.

In March 2026, the Business & Human Rights Centre invited Kohl's and Gap to respond. They did not.
