申立

"One person dead after 'underground incident' at mine in Jefferson Co.", 12 July 2025

One person has died after an "underground incident" at  Nyrstar East Tennessee Young Mine, the company confirmed.

The mine released the following statement Sunday morning:

"Nyrstar East Tennessee Mines confirms that an underground incident which took place at Young Mine on July 12 led to the loss of one of our colleagues. We extend our deepest sympathy and are providing support to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. An in depth investigation into the incident is ongoing and Nyrstar is fully cooperating with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (“MSHA”). Safety is and remains a critical priority for Nyrstar."

... the Mine Safety and Health Administration [MSHA] ... opened an investigation.

On the MSHA website, the death is classified as "fall of roof or back," which means a section of the mine roof collapsed or a section of the mine wall fell.
