Bangladesh: Over 30 garment factories close in Narayanganj, amid an 'order crisis'; incl. co. responses

In August 2025, it was reported that over 30 garment factories, including AST Garments, Disney Sweater, Fatullah Fabrics, Avanti Color Textile, Conway Knit Wear, Bay Creation, Mercury Knit Wear Private, had shut down, leaving hundreds of workers unemployed. The factory closures have been attributed to multiple issues, including a reduction in orders, as well as buyers refusing to pay full prices for orders.

In September 2025, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Next, Lojas Renner and Debenhams Group (reported buyers of Disney Sweater), and Fruit of the Loom (reported buyer of Bay Creation) to respond. The responses can be found below.
