The People’s Front of Buryatia records mass complaints about environmental and infrastructure problems, 10 September 2025

Activists from the regional branch of the People’s Front in Buryatia have received a number of appeals from residents of the republic regarding serious problems in the fields of environmental protection and road infrastructure.

A particularly serious situation has developed on the regional highway Chita–Romanovka–Ulan-Ude. Residents report that heavy trucks from the Khiagda Mining and Processing Plant and the Ozerny Mining and Processing Plant have turned the section of road “Chita – Telemba village” into an impassable route.

Residents of the Barguzinsky District are demanding that the legality of quarry development be verified: “We are checking the legality of the quarry’s development in terms of the availability of permits and whether the site corresponds to the approved boundaries.”

On the Chita–Telemba highway, the situation has reached a critical point: “The road is nothing but potholes, which after rain fill with water. Not only cars cannot pass — even scheduled buses are unable to operate.”

Local residents are in despair: “An ambulance would not be able to bring a patient to the hospital on such a road.”
