NL: Subcontracted cleaners, incl. refugees, at Accor hotel report irregular employment & wage theft; incl. co. response

In May 2026, the Centre wrote to French hotel brand Accor and invited it to respond to allegations of exploitation of workers and asylum seekers at the Ibis Styles Hotel in Arnhem. A report published in NL Times states the workers were recruited to the hotel through a company called AHR Clean, after which they reported several allegations of wage theft, delayed wages, or partial wages. Workers were employed irregularly, without work permits and there were reported irregularities in contracts given to asylum seekers.

As the Ibis is under an Accor-owned brand, we invited the company to respond to the allegations, including how it investigated the allegations and whether any remedy has been administered to the workers.

Accor's response can be read in full below. The company clarified that the Ibis Styles Arnhem is a franchised property run by Novum Hospitality which is named in the NL Times report. Accor states in its response that the either the worker's employer, cleaning company Ö&I, nor AHR Clear were Accor-nominated partners.
