A South32 worker was rushed to hospital after a truck rolled over at the company’s bauxite mine in the Peel region.
South32 confirmed that an employee was injured on Wednesday following in an “incident” involving a tip truck at the Boddington mine, which forms part of the diversified mining giant’s [Worsley] Alumina operation.
It is unclear what injuries were sustained but The West Australian understands the worker was taken to Boddington Hospital by car then airlifted about 150km to Perth via an RAC rescue chopper.
“The team member was taken to hospital for medical assessment and is expected to be discharged shortly. We are providing them with support and are working to understand what occurred,” a South32 spokesman said.
“The relevant authorities have been informed.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people. We continue to look at ways to drive continuous safety improvement across our operations.”
A WorkSafe spokesman said the State’s safety regulator was investigating the rollover.
