Vietnam: Hundreds of residents affected by nuclear power plant in Vinh Tuong face forced displacement, incl. cos. non-responses

In April, residents living in the village of Vinh Tuong are reportedly facing major disruption after being selected as the site for the country’s first nuclear power plant, Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant. The project is being operated in partnership between Electricity of Vietnam and Rosatom. Allegedly, around about 2,000 people are expected to be relocated to pave the way of the nuclear energy programme while there are already suffering economically even though relocation has not begun. Residents also claimed that they are uncertain about compensation and future work opportunities.

In late April, Business and Human Rights Centre invited both Electricity of Vietnam and Rosatom to respond to the allegations but they did not.
